“What is it?” is a traditional Korean Zen koan. Zen hwadu practice uses irrational questioning to go beyond “knowing mind” to the intuitive, immediate mind. As Samu Sunim says of pure experience, it is “intimate, immediate, spontaneous and obvious… like a bowel movement.”
Using the simple and elegant framework Buddha provided as a way of experiencing the world – its suffering and its joys, its conditionality and impermanency – I use this virtual space to stumble along a path that is itself pure experience.
